Dogs Can Feel Envy
Any dog owner will tell you that their pet ① According to a new study, these dog owners may be right.
Scientists at the University of Vienna recently released the results of a new study. According to their findings, dogs can recognize ② and show their disapproval. What's more, they are the first species after humans and primates to show this trait.
Other scientists had already proven that monkeys and chimpanzees do not like being treated worse than others. In past experiments, some monkeys were given cucumbers while other monkeys were given grapes. If the treatment continued, the monkeys that were given cucumbers got angry and ③ . Scientists at the University of Vienna wanted to know ④ .
the monkeys. In the experiments, the scientists sat two dogs next to each other. The scientists then repeatedly asked each dog to give them a paw. One of the dogs was rewarded with a piece of bread or sausage. The other dog received nothing.
As the experiment continued, the dog that received no treats clearly got upset. It yawned, looked away or stared at the dog that received snacks. Eventually, the dog refused to cooperate and stopped giving the scientists its paw.
The news that dogs can feel envy will probably not surprise dog lovers. However, these kinds of scientific studies are showing that ⑤ ,just like humans.
"More and more, we are realizing that humans are somewhat different but not really that different," one Viennese scientist said.
