| | | | | | | | | | | 새로운 휴가 풍속도 - '스테이케이션' (Korean Families Choose Staycation) | | Vacations are a great way to relieve stress, take a break from ordinary routine, and explore new places. However, the high cost of going abroad has many families pushing the thought of a vacation out of mind this year amidst the struggling economy. Luckily, vacations don't need to happen on exotic islands or in faraway lands to provide the relaxing benefits we crave. A new trend has cropped up to make vacations accessible to even those on the tightest of budgets - staycations.
Staycations can occur in the home, in the neighborhood, or in the country. They are based upon the idea that local attractions and entertainment can be just as exciting and relaxing as the sights one would pay millions of won to see abroad. Staycations help vacationers avoid the high price of an airplane ticket, losing money in the exchange rate, and paying exorbitant hotel costs.
According to a survey conducted by the pre-paid phone card company SK Telink, nearly 40 percent of the 1,612 survey participants said they planned on enjoying their vacations at home this year to save money. But spending a vacation at home does not mean staying inside. A majority of men and women planned to visit local attractions and entertainment venues during their time off.
"Tied up with my hectic schedule everyday, I have never had a chance to enjoy what Seoul has to offer," said Kim Joo-ee, an office worker in Seoul. Kim chose to vacation in Southeast Asia during her past three summers but has decided to explore her hometown this year. On the top of her to-see list are Bukchon and Namsangol Hanok villages. Others like Kim plan on taking advantage of the numerous musicals and concerts being organized in Seoul this year.
Companies have begun offering vacation packages for office workers like Kim and families who simply cannot afford to go abroad this year.
"We're trying to present what we have in the most convenient way possible," said an official from the Korea National Park. The National Park will be working with the online mall GMarket to provide staycationers with tours of South Korea's largest national parks and mountains. Similarly, Hmall, Interpark and Auction are offering organized trips to commonly untraveled scenic areas throughout the country for a price of 10,000 to 50,000 won. | | | | | | | | | 아프간 전쟁, 베트남 전 닮아가 | | | | | | | | 아프간 나토군 공습으로 민간인 90여명 사망 | | | | | | | | | | |
