The survey was conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) and included the opinions of 1,328 middle and high school students from throughout the nation. The ACRC found that 76.8 percent of the surveyed students had a negative view of society and 51.7 percent thought that corruption would worsen in South Korea in two to three years. Only eight percent said they thought society was transparent.
The ACRC's survey showed that teenagers believed the most corrupt areas were politics, administrative agencies and the media. When asked to name one or more field as the most corrupt, more than 80 percent of the survey participants chose political parties and the legislature, 24 percent chose administrative agencies and 23.3 percent chose media.
The results of the ACRC's 2008 poll showed that 60 percent of students found South Korean society to be dishonest, indicating that teenagers are beginning to feel more negative about corruption. In response, anticorruption watchdogs plan on creating education programs to make society more transparent.
"In a bid to strengthen transparency-related education, we will discuss ways to add transparency-making programs into schoolbooks with the ministries concerned," the Commission said. "In addition, the Commission will conduct a campaign to raise integrity by holding an essay contest and forming a youth publicity team to promote transparency-making efforts."
Most of the survey participants cited insufficient punishment for corruption as the main reason they believed it would continue in South Korean society. | | | | | | | | | 백악관, 이슬람 성월 만찬 | | | | | | | | 2천년만에 최고치 기록한 북극 기온...주된 원인은 온실가스 | | | | | | | | | | |
