| | | | | | | | | | 홈 스쿨링을 선택하는 미국 가정 증가 (More Families Turn to Home Schooling) | | Recent studies show that more U.S. families are choosing to home school their kids. There are currently over 1.5 million children being home schooled in the U.S. They complete academic lessons similar to public or private school lessons. However, they can work at their own pace.
Parents have various reasons for home schooling their children. Some parents home school their children because they do not like public schools. They say that public schools can be dangerous. They worry about peer pressure, bullying, and poor teaching. There are also parents who are unhappy about the public school curriculum. Many parents who are unhappy with public schools choose to send their children to private schools. However, private schools are generally expensive, and some parents dislike private schools, as well.
Some experts say that home schooled children learn faster and do better on academic tests. Instead of sharing one teacher with twenty or so other students, home schooled children usually only have to share their teacher with one or two siblings or they receive a one-on-one education.
But while home schooling is becoming more popular, it still gets criticized. Opponents worry that home schooled children do not socialize well and feel isolated from peers. Others question the abilities of parents who decide to home school without a proper teaching degree.
"It's definitely not for everybody, but for our family, it works," said Thor Nankivel, a father from South Dakota who home schools his three children. Nankivel works and his wife stays at home to teach their children. However, when he comes home from work, he is in charge of teaching his kids math and science. His wife is responsible for their language arts studies. The Nankivel's say they have seen very good results. | | | | | | | | | 백악관, 소토마요르 대법관 취임축하 | | | | | | | | 이라크 20년만의 인구조사, 민족간 분쟁으로 지연 | | | | | | | | | | |
