Forest Preservation Society Gets Off to a Good Start The Ashmor Forest Preservation Society held its first meeting on Thursday, May 19th at the Ashmor Community Center. The event was attended by forty-seven members of the community, nearly double the amount expected. Trevor Lowry was elected as the society's president and several committee positions were filled by volunteers. The purpose of the group is to raise funds to protect Ashmor Forest and promote responsible use of its land. The main goals for this year were determined at the meeting, and they include cleaning up pollution within the area, upgrading the nature trails, and creating a visitors center. The group plans on meeting the third Thursday of every month and the next meeting will be held on June 16th at the community center. Community members who would like to participate can contact the group by email at ashmorfps@email.net to sign up for volunteer positions. |
