Quincy City Council Approves Bridge Upgrade At last night's Quincy City Council meeting, council members approved a $250,000 proposal to upgrade and repair lighting on the Bayview Bridge. The council also agreed to allocate additional funding for annual upkeep of the structure. The proposal was approved by a vote of 9 to 1. Two council members did not participate in the voting. Councilwoman Martina Voight was absent from the meeting due to illness and Councilman Ron Crawford abstained from voting for personal reasons. Supporters of the proposal say the project will increase visibility on the bridge and help prevent accidents, which will also reduce the city's exposure to lawsuits from motorists. Budget restrictions of the past few years have delayed making needed lighting upgrades on the bridge while funds were invested in projects that promoted economic growth. Councilwoman Emma Mueller opposed the proposal, saying that during difficult economic times, spending should focus on expanding school services and programs. |
