North Korea Taken Off U.S. Terrorism List

On October 11, the United States announced that it has removed North Korea from its terrorism blacklist. ① in the negotiations with the communist country.

The decision to take North Korea off the list came after Pyongyang ② . The North has been in conflict with South Korea, the United States and other nations because it has facilities to build nuclear weapons. Under pressure from the rest of the world, North Korea agreed last year to dismantle its nuclear facilities in exchange for economic aid. The United States also agreed to ③ North Korea on August 11.

The dismantling of North Korea's nuclear program started off well. As promised, North Korea destroyed a major part of its nuclear plant in Yongbyon, which was thought to ④ . However, problems resurfaced when the United States did not fulfill its promise to strike the North from its terrorism list on August 11. The United States said that further dismantling of the nuclear program had to take place. Also, international nuclear inspectors ⑤ , it said.
